Fandango Productions
Case Studies Sibley Cancer Center

The Objective:
-
To celebrate Sibley Cancer Center’s progress towards becoming a top provider of healthcare services
-
To sustain Sibley Cancer Center’s reputation as a leader in cancer treatment in the D.C. area
-
To build a new theme around the event melding the traditional concept of Hope and Progress with the concept of Growth
The 8th Annual Hope and Progress Gala hosted by the Sibley Memorial Hospital Foundation was held at The Four Seasons Hotel in Washington D.C. Fandango Productions assisted with all aspects of the event from invitations, programs, and signage to lighting, décor, and seating arrangements. Fandango worked with Sibley to create a theme that represented a celebration of the hospital’s accomplishments thus far, with the hope to continue to achieve great success and conquer milestones in the fight to cure cancer.
The idea of growth became the running undertone throughout the event including the décor elements. The idea of growth and earth friendly also fit hand and hand. Fandango incorporated potted plants into the centerpieces and utilized natural elements and candles as opposed to the traditional fresh cut flowers of gala’s past. Plants were delivered to nurses’ stations as a thank you for a year of always appreciated hard work.
Fandango’s second challenge was incorporating the gala’s existing Hope and Progress logo into the theme itself melding the two concepts. Fandango’s design team created a new logo for the event which was incorporated throughout. The beautiful Four Season’s ballroom was accentuated by using a nature inspired lighting package and elegant moss green linens. The atmosphere was designed to create the standard of elegance without snapping purse strings.
Sheila C. Johnson; gala chair, was a great force behind the events success. With numerous recognitions and accomplishments, such as being one of the founders of BET (Black Entertainment Television) and having part ownership in the Washington Wizards, her willingness to give back is shown through her numerous philanthropic efforts that do not go unnoticed.
Creating awareness of a cause and raising funds in support of its cure have long been a goal of both Sibley and Ms. Johnson. In total, the event raised just over $1.25 million. The night of the gala featured both silent and live auction items. This exclusive auction featured silent items such as a custom designed black pearl pendant and Tiffany watches. The live auction items included an extraordinary Lois Mailou Jones painting, and Ultimate DC Sports Experience Package, and a wine lot contributed by the Host Committee members.
The gala’s success was a true testament to the fact that Fandango Productions, despite difficult economic times, can make any event a success because of innovative design concepts and the ability to create an atmosphere that guests always enjoy. These creative design concepts allowed guests to relax, enjoy the evening, and support a worthy cause.
Fandango Productions congratulates Sibley on their tremendous accomplishment.
